This course focuses on the functioning of international and regional organizations and their impact on trade and economic growth. Current socio-economic challenges require global cooperation, and we examine what role international institutions can play in solving these problems. Utilizing theories of international political economy, we analyse why states cooperate through international and regional organizations. Beginning with a focus on major international economic organizations such as the IMF, World Bank and WTO, we then turn to regional organizations in the Americas, Europe, and Asia. India’s role in multilateral and regional cooperation is a key area of our study. Through this course, students will gain a critical understanding of international organizations and the potential for regional cooperation in promoting trade and economic development.
